What is the Panchang?

The Panchang is the Vedic almanac built from five limbs — Tithi (lunar day), Nakshatra (the constellation the Moon occupies), Yoga (a Sun–Moon combination), Karana (half a tithi) and Vaar (the weekday). Together they describe the quality of time itself, which is why every puja, sanskar and new beginning in the Hindu tradition starts by consulting the panchang.

Why do timings change by city?

Sunrise, sunset and therefore Rahu Kaal and the other windows depend on where you stand on the earth. A panchang for Delhi is a few minutes different from one for Varanasi. Choose your city above — and when you book a puja with us, the pandit fixes the muhurat for the temple where it is actually performed.

How should I use it?

Favour the auspicious windows (Abhijit and Brahma Muhurat) for beginnings, prayers and important work; avoid starting new ventures in Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda and Gulika Kaal. For life events — griha pravesh, naamkaran, vivah — the right muhurat also depends on your janma nakshatra, so ask us for a personal muhurat.
